SANTA FE — Legislation signed by Gov. Susana Martinez will open the door for more people, including young soldiers coming home from war and other assignments, to apply to become state police officers.
Until now, New Mexico mandated that applicants have at least 30 hours of college credits to be hired by the agency, and they had to accumulate more credits on a schedule approved by the chief.
