Las Vegas police late Tuesday night apprehended a woman accused in the death of a local man.
Bernadette Sanchez, 36, a former Watrous resident who was more recently homeless in Las Vegas, is charged in the stabbing to death Timoteo M. Jaramillo, 36, of Las Vegas late Friday afternoon, police said.
On Tuesday night, Las Vegas police received a call of an intoxicated woman down at the corner of Lopez and Rio Arriba streets, Police Chief Gary Gold said. The woman was identified as Sanchez, who was taken to the hospital and then expected to be taken to the county jail.
The stabbing allegedly occurred around 5:30 p.m. at 1916 Morrison St., which is near the county courthouse.
Besides Sanchez, Elizabeth Martin, 41, of Las Vegas, was arrested in connection with the death on a charge of tampering with evidence.
The police wouldn't reveal details about the crime, saying they didn't want to compromise their investigation as they begin to question Sanchez.
"We're not very clear how this got started. We have some idea, but we're not positive," Las Vegas police detective Roy Pacheco said. "We know she (Sanchez) is here in town."
He said the police found the murder weapon near the site of the crime.
