Cross country season is nearing the home stretch — with district and state meets taking place over the next two weekends — and local runners got one last tuneup this past Thursday in Santa Rosa.

Mora’s Alonzo Chavez raced to victory in the boys’ varsity division — his sixth win in eight meets.

Mora placed second with 65 team points behind Pecos’ 43 in the boys’ race.

On the girls’ side, Robertson got strong runs from Erica Herrera and Karlene Montaño in particular to take second place (67) behind East Mountain (44).

“Erica’s a great addition to our team,” said RHS coach Patrick Garcia. “She works hard. She and Karlene have been running our top two.”

Mora and Pecos take part in the District 4-2A meet Friday afternoon.

Robertson and West Las Vegas run in the District 2-3A meet Saturday.
