Bryanna Duran made sure the Lady Cardinal seniors went out in style.
Duran smashed her fifth home run of the spring on Tuesday, a two-RBI bomb that brought a merciful end to Robertson’s home softball finale against Taos via the 15-run rule.
Final score: Robertson 16, Taos 0.
Elena Garcia proved durable through a complete-game pitching win, although it lasted only three innings.
Garcia got plenty of run support — and in short order. The Lady Cardinals took a 4-0 lead through the first inning but put the game out of reach by pushing nine runs across in the second, getting production through the batting lineup.
Amber Yara, who also shined on Saturday in a sweep over Raton, is batting .593 according to MaxPreps.
Coach Adrian Jaramillo’s Lady Cards are ranked third in Class 3A behind Portales and Silver. They play a key doubleheader at fourth-rated Pojoaque Valley this coming Tuesday in Jacona. As it currently stands, the Elkettes are also the main competition for the district title.
It was the last home game of the regular season for the squad, now 12-6 overall and 5-1 in District 2-3A. The RHS seniors include Myranda Aragon, Bryanna Duran, Megan Esquibel, Jamie Fernandez, Elena Garcia, Gabriella Garcia.
All four high school baseball and softball teams were in town, playing at the same time on Saturday. But only Robertson softball found success on the scoreboards.
Coach Lucas Griego’s WLV Lady Dons slid to 6-9-1 and 3-3 in district after losing to the Elkettes (12-7, 3-2).
Robertson baseball, coached by Kenneth Sandoval, lost 9-5 to Taos after spotting the Tigers a 3-0 edge. The Cardinals fell to 11-8, 3-3.
West Las Vegas baseball and coach Ryan Gabaldon lost 3-0 in a defensive clash with Pojoaque. The slumping Dons are now 11-9, 1-5 in district.
