The postseason is over for Robertson and Mora volleyball teams, who lost Friday in the state volleyball tournaments at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.
Robertson (16-7) fell to a familiar nemesis — District 2-3A foe Pojoaque Valley, who went on to win the Class 3A state title Saturday.
The Elkettes, ranked No. 1 through much of the season, eliminated RHS 25-16, 25-17 and 26-24 in one of two Class 3A semifinals Friday night.
Pojoaque, coached by NMHU alumnus Brian Ainsworth, moved on to a Saturday afternoon title match against Portales, a 3-1 winner over St. Michael’s. The Elkettes won in four — 25-23, 14-25, 25-8, 25-20 — to secure their second state title in a four-year span. The Elkettes’ last appearance in the final came in 2006, when they beat West Las Vegas in four games to take the championship.
For the Lady Cardinals and head coach Raynee Gerhart, Friday brought an end to a two-year streak of reaching the 3A final. They finished as runner-up to Portales in 2007 and to Ruidoso in 2009. For the third straight year, Robertson made the Class 3A final four.
Earlier Friday, RHS had beaten Hatch Valley in four sets (25-8, 16-25, 25-21, 25-15) to advance to the semifinals.
Also Friday, the Mora Rangerettes lost to Jal 3-0 in the Class 2A quarterfinals, bringing their successful season to a close.
Coach Leslie Vigil’s team, which had beaten Ramah and then claimed a No. 2 finish in pool play, lost 25-20, 25-16, 25-14, against Jal.
Jal then lost in five to Tularosa. Texico swept Tularosa to take the 2A title.
