Enduring a tough challenge Monday, the Robertson girls’ golf team held on to score a district championship.

The victory provides ample momentum as the Lady Cardinals and head coach Gene Gurule prepare for next week’s state tournament. State for Class 3A is May 9-11 at New Mexico Tech in Socorro.

The RHS girls qualified the necessary three legs this past fall (team scores of 395 at Ladera and Los Alamos in September and a 377 at NMHU in October).

Gurule guided the RHS girls to a third-place team finish in 2009.

Individually, two Lady Cards have also made the cut.

Jayme Quintana has five qualifying scores (an 85 April 12 at Santa Fe Country Club, 90 April 26 at New Mexico Tech, 91 Sept. 21 at Los Alamos, 93 March 29 at New Mexico Tech, 95 Sept. 29 at Ladera). Quintana finished sixth individually in the 2009 state tourney.

Jamie Allen has four qualifying scores (an 87 Oct. 5 at Santa Fe, 89 Oct. 12 at NMHU, 91 Sept. 29 at Ladera, 93 Sept. 21 at Los Alamos). Allen finished 13th in the 2009 state tourney.

Notes: This season, Robertson’s Brandon Baca qualified two of three legs with an 80 April 12 at Santa Fe and a 78 April 26 at New Mexico Tech ... West Las Vegas’ Briana Montaño had one qualifying score, a 96 March 29 at Tucumcari. West is coached by Jose Medina.
