Jazzology, the local jazz vocal group, will perform a birthday salute to Duke Ellington on April 26.  The concert is in observance of Ellington's 115th birthday on April 29 and in remembrance of the Duke's appearance at Highlands in 1967.

The group, led by Joe Cooney, will be joined by Ann Mishler on the piano, Ralph Marquez on drums, and Ed Harrington on bass.

The featured number will be a medley of pieces by Ellington titled "Duke Ellington's Choral Caravan." The remainder of the concert will include choral numbers, vocal solos, and instrumental pieces focusing on Ellington and other jazz greats.

Jazzology is a joint student/community group that grew out of a Jazz Choir class offered by the Highlands University music program a decade ago.  The group has performed frequently with other Highlands choirs and continues to receive logistical support from the program and its director, Andre Garcia-Nuthman.

The concert will be at 2 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church, 1000 Douglas Ave.  Suggested donation $5.  Students are invited to attend without donating.
