More than 20 singers from the New Mexico Highlands Universlty music program will join with the Santa Symphony Orchestra and Chorus to present Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe in May.
These final concerts of the Symphony's 30th anniversary season also include Brahm's Tragic Overture.
Completed in 1824, the ninth symphony is one of the best-known works of the repertoire of classical music. Among critics, it is almost universally considered to be among Beethoven's greatest works, and is considered by some to be the greatest piece of music ever written.
Soloists are Sara Heaton, soprano; J'nai Bridges, mezzo-soprano; Robert Breault, tenor; and Lester Lynch, baritone. The concert will be conducted by Tom Hall. The chorus director is Dr. Linda Raney. Andre Garcia-Nuthmann is preparing the Highlands singers to join the Symphony Chorus.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18. p.m.
Tickets range from $22 to $76 and are available now through The Lensic (505) 988-1234 or The Symphony Box Office (505) 983-1414.
