Lady Dons nip St. Mike’s; Dons top Mora

By Dave Kavanaugh

West Las Vegas’ girls’ basketball will look to pump their record up to 3-0 — all at the expense of Santa Fe teams — on Tuesday when the Lady Dons play at Santa Fe Indian School.

The Lady Dons opened their schedule by routing Capital 75-28 this past Wednesday night at Gillie Lopez Gym.

The team followed that by pulling off a 51-47 overtime thriller Friday at St. Michael’s.

Notably, all three WLV girls’ teams won at Perez-Shelley Gymnasium in Santa Fe, the frosh 37-30, the junior varsity 44-42.

Meanwhile, the West Las Vegas boys’ basketball team ran its record to 2-0 by dominating Mora 94-56 at Montoya Gym.
West’s junior varsity defeated Mora 62-50.

Still shorthanded (due in part to the prolonged football season the school is enjoying), the Robertson boys’ basketball team lost to Class 4A Moriarty 48-32 on Friday in the Coach Henry O. Sanchez memorial tournament hosted in Bernalillo.
It was a 17-16 margin at halftime.

Details on the Cardinals’ other games were not available Saturday.
The RHS girls make their debut under new head coach Bea Gallegos on Friday evening.
