This year, Holiday Open House will celebrate its sixth consecutive year of operation. It is sponsored by a group of community members who feel people should not have to be alone during the holidays.

This season of the year can be a very sad time for those alone, isolated from family and friends for whatever reason. Holiday Open House addresses that need. Any time from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25, people may drop in at Faith Hall on EIghth Street, just behind St. Paul’s Peace Episcopal Lutheran Church. Food will be available all day both days, with a full turkey dinner served on Monday, Dec. 24 beginning at 2 p.m.

There are fellowship, music, games, puzzles, and on Monday, Dec. 24 people can help decorate the tree. Of course, there is no charge.

The organizers of the Holiday Open House are asking organizations and individuals to help get the word out to those people who may be alone to come and celebrate together. Volunteers are also needed to distribute posters, sing carols, provide other music, help prepare food and host the event. Interested parties can call 425-8479 from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Friday for more info, to schedule a time to volunteer, or leave a message. Ask for Pastor Pat. Those interested may also call Pastor Pat at home at 454-1013.

Individuals and organizations may make financial contributions to help with food and other expenses. Checks may be made out to “Las Vegas Kiwanis” with “Holiday Open House” noted on the memo line. Checks may be mailed to C.K. Halverson, 1623 8th St., Las Vegas, N.M. 87701
