Down 28-zip at halftime, and despite 25 penalties totaling 232 yards, the Highlands U Cowboys beat the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 43-36, in Portales. What a heckuva football game!

J. Proctor ran the winning 2-yard touchdown during sudden-death overtime, and a total 143 yards running. Cordell Nugent made 12 tackles, 2 sacks. Had the 'Pokes not made twice as many penalties as ENMU, the game would've been somewhat different.

HU's total offense was 460 yards; 306 rushing, 154 passing, with one forced fumble.

Congrats to the HU football team, head Coach Eric Young and his staff for a well-deserved opening-season WIN! Again, what an exciting game!

Correction On HU's 1st Win...

It was overtime, not sudden death overtime, because after HU scored starting at the ENMU 25 yard line, the 'Hounds had the same opportunity from HU's 25, but failed in four attempts...

All in all, a most exciting game. I wish I was instate so I could see this Cowboy team play in person. They are a team that will be a force in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Boy, will some of these RMAC teams playing HU will get a "WAKE-UP" call! Their first win is absolutely refreshing, and something to cheer about!
