The state Supreme Court has finally decided to take up the issue of same-sex marriage in New Mexico. It’s about time.
The high court agreed Friday to hold a hearing on Oct. 23 to hear arguments in the case. The decision came after all 33 county clerks in the state petitioned the Supreme Court to weigh in on the issue.
As it now stands, eight New Mexico counties are issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, while the remaining 25 are not.
