Albuquerque took the opening game of a four-game set with Colorado Springs 7-3 behind a six-run offensive outburst in Monday’s fourth inning.

Second baseman Elian Herrera led the charge, going 3 for 5 and matching Dee Gordon for the most stolen bases in a game this season with three.

Right-handed pitcher Anthony Ortega (1-2, 3.00) fired three innings, surrendering one run on three hits and fanned two, earning the win. Josh Wall tossed a scoreless eighth, striking out two hitters. Righty Steve Ames finished the game for the ‘Topes, pitching a scoreless ninth.

Tim Federowicz made an immediate impact in his first game back with Albuquerque since returning from a stint with Dodgers. The Isotopes catcher doubled in his first at-bat, scoring Herrera and giving the ‘Topes a first-inning 1-0 lead.

Colorado Springs centerfielder Tyler Colvin put the Sky Sox in front 2-1 in the second inning on his fourth triple of the season. Ryan Wheeler and Matt McBride scored on the play and Colvin was thrown out trying to stretch the triple into an inside-the-park homer.

The ‘Topes leapfrogged the Sky Sox, plating six runs in the fourth to grab a 7-2 lead.

Rusty Ryal scored on an Alfredo Amezaga single. Later, with the bases loaded, Chili Buss grounded into a force out allowing Jeremy Moore to score the go-ahead run. Herrera then added an RBI single. Ryal capped the inning’s scoring with a big two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded.
