The Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant was held on Sunday March 27 at the West Las Vegas High School Cafeteria.  

Kayla Gonzales was crowned Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen 2011 and Daniela Montoya was named first runner-up. After the pageant it was revealed that Gonzales would be ineligible to compete at the Miss New Mexico’s Outstanding Teen Pageant because she is a high school graduate.

In a turn of events, Daniela Montoya was crowned Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen 2011 and will represent Las Vegas at the state pageant in Ruidoso in June.

Kayla Gonzales, however, is eligible to compete in the Miss Mexico Pageant as Miss Northern New Mexico. She has the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss New Mexico and a chance to represent our state at the Miss America Pageant.      

Renee Mondragon was crowned Miss Photogenic and won the Pageantry Magazine Spirit Award. The Pageantry Magazine Spirit Award best represents Pageantry magazine’s mission statement of promoting friendship, sportsmanship, and character development.

This award honors those who exemplify the true spirit of competition and character development. Pageantry magazine recognizes this individual who, by her actions and deeds, has a profound and positive influence on the lives of those they touch. She will receive a subscription to Pageantry Magazine and will have her photo appear in an upcoming issue.  

Montoya, 16, is in the 11th grade at Robertson High School. Her platform is Girl Power.

She performed a dance, spreading the word of her platform Girl Power for her talent.

She is the daughter of Roger Montoya and Brenda Ortega-Benavidez and Louie Benavidez.

Gonzales, 17, attends Luna Community College. Her platform is Fitting In: Discovering the Real You. She performed a classic opera song “Se Tu Mami” by Giovani Battista Pergolesi for her talent.

She is the daughter of Amado and Terri Gonzales.

Renee, 14, is in the ninth Grade at Robertson High School. Her platform is Helping American Veterans and Troops. She performed a violin and vocal selection to “El Quihubole.”  She is the daughter of Crystal Mondragon and the late Ismael Mondragon. 

The 2011 Miss New Mexico and Miss New Mexico’s Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held on June 23 to 25 at the Spencer Theater in Ruidoso.
