Jose Griego made it to the buzzer Tuesday in his first bull ride at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Farmington.
So far, so good.
The Las Vegas native scored a 65, currently tying him for 16th place in the bull riding standings. He’s due to ride again on Thursday.
Cody Case of Fulton, Mo., is the top rider to date with a 77 in the first go-round. Just 26 competitors have completed the eight-second ride; more will make the attempt today.
Meanwhile, the team roping duo of Las Vegas’ J.C Archuleta and Belen’s Ryan Cook slipped to ninth in their event standings. Although Archuleta and Cook did not perform Tuesday, a number of other teams did, and three posted a better time than the 7.961 the New Mexico pair had on Monday.
One of them, the Colorado duo of Shay Carroll (La Junta) and Tyler Schnaufer (Pueblo) now lead the team roping standings with a 6.175.
Utah has taken over the top spot in the state team standings with 1,625 points. New Mexico is 15th with 840.
