Both Highlands University and Luna Community College will hold graduations Saturday.
Luna’s commencement is set for 10 a.m. in a large tent on campus, while Highlands’ will be at 2 p.m. at Wilson Complex.
The commencement speaker at Luna will be Ana Pacheco, a Santa Fe native and publisher of La Herencia Magazine.
Pacheco began her publishing career in 1979 in New York, where she held various positions with entertainment, Hispanic and financial service publications. She returned to Santa Fe in 1991 and has taken on a number of projects, including hosting a weekly Hispanic radio show for Citadel.
In 1994, she founded La Herencia in response to the rapid decline of the Spanish language, Hispanic culture and history. The quarterly publication provides information on culture and history with articles written by local historians.
At Highlands, Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M., will be the keynote speaker. Lujan received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Highlands in December 2007, according to the university.
Before becoming congressman last year, Lujan served as chairman of the state Public Regulation Commission, as a top official in the state Cultural Affairs Department and as deputy state treasurer under then-Treasurer Michael Montoya.
Lujan was elected to Congress in 2008, easily defeating his two opponents in the general election. He is the son of state House Speaker Ben Lujan.
