A young girl died Wednesday evening when a four-wheeler and a truck collided in Romeroville.
State police didn’t immediately release the name of the girl who died, but multiple postings on the social media website Facebook identified the girl who died as Destiny Courtney Encinias.
State Police Lt. Robert McDonald would only say that the girl who died was from Romeroville.
He said she died when the four-wheeler ATV she was riding on collided with a 1990 Dodge pickup on the I-25 frontage road in Romeroville, just south of Las Vegas.
Officers responded to the accident just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday and discovered that two juveniles were injured in the collision, McDonald said. He said the four-wheeler was traveling northbound along the shoulder of the frontage road when it was struck by the Dodge pickup in the left front part of the ATV. The crash caused the two ATV riders to be thrown off the vehicle. Neither of the passengers had helmets. It is unclear at this time whether any citations were given.
Encinias was pronounced dead by Alta Vista Regional Hospital staff.
No other details on the crash were available as of press time.
