With just two teams in La Plaza’s softball division, there wasn’t much mystery as to who would meet in the final on Saturday morning.
But given the competitiveness of both the A’s and Marlins — not to mention the one-run difference between them in their most recent meeting — there wasn’t a clear favorite going into the championship game.
True to form, momentum in the final swung wildly to and fro. The A’s jumped to a seemingly hearty lead, but the Marlins retaliated with a big rally. That was the way most of the morning transpired, at least until the latter innings when the A’s made one surge too many for their archrivals to match.
Deanna Bustos and Dennisha Nickson scored three runs apiece for the A’s, and six others had two runs each. Indeed, the A’s got run production from every spot in the batting order.
Marlins Angelina Sanchez, Destiny Downs, Sonia Lujan and Felicia Pacheco each scored twice.
Both teams filled their schedules this year with interleague games.
