Gas rate investigation continues

Auditors from a private firm pored through city records last week as part of an investigation into natural gas rates.

State Auditor Hector Balderas confirmed that his office has hired Accounting and Consulting Group to examine allegations that the city didn’t comply with its ordinance that provides the formula for setting rates.

The investigation, jointly launched by Balderas and District Attorney Richard Flores, started after many city customers complained about sharply increased heating bills last winter.
