The Comcast Foundation, founded in 1999 to provide charitable support to its local communities, today announced the 2011 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program, including West Las Vegas High School student Zachary Gallegos.
On Wednesday, April 20, Gallegos and the other 24 scholarship winners from New Mexico were to be honored during the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce’s Education Excellence Annual Dinner at Embassy Suites Hotel featuring keynote speaker New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez.
“Comcast is proud of its Leaders and Achievers scholarship recipients. They represent some of the best and brightest high school seniors who also demonstrate civic involvement in the communities we serve across the country,” said Charisse Lillie, Vice President, Community Investment of Comcast Corporation and Executive President of the Comcast Foundation.
“The Leaders and Achievers scholarship winners from New Mexico have worked extremely hard during their high school careers, and we’re pleased to provide these scholarships to help them reach their higher education goals,” said Chris Dunkeson, Vice President and General Manager, Comcast New Mexico.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students.
The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to be prepared for the future, to engage youth in their communities, and to demonstrate the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.
