Jaci and Jenese Fulgenzi earned a spot in the No. 1 girls’ doubles final of this past weekend’s Los Alamos Invitational, but the young Robertson duo lost to Farmington’s Riley Coleman and Liza Briody-Pavlik.
The Scorpions cruised to a 6-1 win in the first set before the Lady Cardinal pair got the equalizer with a 6-4 verdict in the second. But Coleman and Briody-Pavlik answered with a 6-2 win in the clincher.
The Fulgenzis’ performance, which included a gritty 7-5, 7-6 (4) semifinal triumph over Alyssa Benally and Ramsey Baker of Piedra Vista, helped the Robertson girls place fifth of eight teams in the tournament, which featured some of the better teams in the state. Farmington won the girls’ competition with 23 points, edging Santa Fe High (19).
The Santa Fe team scored a No. 1 singles title with a win by another member of the Fulgenzi clan -- Brandee, who coasted to victory, 6-1, 6-0, over Farmington’s Sydney Schumacher.
