A forum for the two candidates for District 70 state representative is set for Thursday.
The event will be 6-8 p.m. in the lecture hall at Memorial Middle School.
The candidates are the incumbent, Democrat Richard Vigil, and Republican Mel Root. Travis Regensberg had filed as an independent candidate, but the secretary of state determined that he didn’t have enough petition signatures.
Vigil, who has served since 1999, ran against Root in 2008, prevailing with 70 percent of the vote.
District 70 includes much of San Miguel County and a small portion of Torrance County. Vigil represents nearly all of Las Vegas.
The forum is being sponsored by the Committee for the People and the Las Vegas Optic.
The moderator will take written questions from the audience and give candidates equal amounts of time to answer them. Time for rebuttals may be granted as well.
For more information about the forum, call the Optic’s David Giuliani at 425-6796.
