Flu cases now spiking across state

SANTA FE — The flu has walloped New Mexico with an early one-two punch and health officials are urging people to get vaccinated against the illness.

Dr. Joan Baumbach, an epidemiologist in the New Mexico Department of Health, said Friday the flu has hit New Mexico earlier and harder than last year.

“This is an unusually early flu season,” she said.
