Las Vegas Kryptonite is back in the American Amateur Baseball Congress Sandy Koufax South Plains Regional Tournament, and this year, it was just a five-hour drive away.
The tourney is in Farmington.
The Kryptonite kicked off its participation early, with Brian Gonzales demonstrating his power hitting by winning the event’s home run derby. Gonzales won the derby by hitting eight home runs in the first round and then seven more to take the title in the finals.
After the preliminary round, Gonzales’ closest competition had three home runs, noted Kryptonite manager Shannon Aragon.
“In the final, a hitter from the Farmington River Cats hit five to set up a chance for Brian to show off his power,” Aragon reported. “Brian hit six home runs with three chances remaining to take the crown.”
The Kryptonite opened the regional with a first-round meeting against those same Farmington River Cats. Details were not available as of press time.
