The inaugural Fabian Trujillo Memorial Run and Walk drew dozens of participants and roughly as many spectators to the Gene Torres Golf Course last summer.
This year organizers are hoping to match or eclipse 2012’s promising start as they pay tribute to the longtime teacher and coach, who died in a 2011 car accident.
This year’s Fabian Trujillo Memorial will take place Saturday, June 15, at the golf course. Early registration will be available locally via Dinah Maynes, and sign-up will be available on the morning of the run.
As was the case last year, three events will be featured.
The opener will be a 1-mile walk around the perimeter of the course. Registration (and payment) deadline for the walk is 6:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 7. Cost is $20 if payment received by June 15.
A 5-kilometer run will follow the walk at around 7:45 a.m. Registration and payment deadline for the run is 7:30 a.m. After the run is complete, the “Logan’s Trot” run for children under 12 will commence. Cost is $5 per entrant.
All proceeds will benefit the Fabian Trujillo Scholarship Program.
Participants will receive commemorative T-shirts, and prizes will be awarded to the top-three finishers in the 1-mile walk and 5-kilometer run. Prizes will also go to children taking part in the “Logan’s Trot,” named for Trujillo’s youngest daughter.
Trujillo was honored earlier this year as part of a Rose Bowl float recognizing organ donors across the country.
