A scoring drought of nearly seven minutes doomed the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls Wednesday night in a 79-64 loss at Eastern New Mexico in Portales.
Highlands fell to 1-8; ENMU is 7-5.
The Cowgirls played evenly with the host Zias early on and courtesy of Oliana Seanoa’s jumper, trailed just 27-24 with 3:59 left in the first half. But eight straight missed shots and eight turnovers by NMHU helped Eastern go on a 9-0 run that ended on Jessica Armijo’s layup nearly three minutes into the second half.
