It has been known for months that Las Vegas City Schools was in the red, and the trend continues.
This time, however, the deficit isn’t so outrageous as the district received $750,000 in emergency supplemental funding from the state Public Education Department. The district will need to find ways to cut roughly $325,000 from its current fiscal year budget to make up the difference. State statutes prohibit public entities from ending the year with a negative balance, district Superintendent Sheryl McNellis-Martinez told the school board in a meeting on Thursday.
