After a year of working as an associate dentist at Collins Dental, Christopher Yoon has purchased Dr. Frank Sanchez’s dental practice, Sanchez Dental/Highland Family Dental Office.

“I considered several places to open my practice but decided that Las Vegas was the place I wanted to be,” said Yoon, a Korean American. “In the last year three dentists have closed their businesses in Las Vegas and either retired or left the community. I think the people of this area are in need of a dentist, and I hope to fill the void.”

Yoon and the Las Vegas/San Miguel Chamber of Commerce hosted a business after hours gathering at the dental office on Thursday.

“When Dr. Frank Sanchez, a dentist and life-long member of this community offered me the opportunity to purchase his practice and building, I took it without a second thought,” Yoon said, adding that Sanchez convinced him he would be accepted here.

Yoon said Sanchez allowed him to start his new practice in January, and he said he has hired many of Sanchez’s staff.

Yoon, who is fluent in English, Spanish and Korean, was born in Korea and moved to Los Angeles with his family in the 1970s. He studied electronic engineering at Fullerton State College in Orange County, California.

He said he has owned and operated several small businesses most of his life and has lived in several states, including California, Texas, Florida and New Mexico. Prior to coming to Las Vegas, he lived in Albuquerque for 14 years.

“The last business I owned and operated before deciding to go to dental school was a photographic studio and processing center in the Cottonwood Mall,” Yoon said.

He attended the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine at the Anschustz Medical Center in Denver.

Yoon said he stayed on the New Mexico Highlands University campus while working as an associate dentist at Collins Dental.

Yoon is married and has twin daughters who currently attend school in Albuquerque.

“I am looking forward to unite them here in Las Vegas in the near future,” he said. “I am committed to staying and serving the community of Las Vegas for many years to come.”
