Dons trap Bears in hoops debut

After Black Friday, it was Basketball Saturday.

West Las Vegas’ boys’ basketball team made a successful season debut by beating the Wingate Bears 56-40 on Saturday at Gillie Lopez Gym.

The Bears ended the first quarter with a 14-12 edge. But the Dons overtook their visitors after that and grabbed a 25-23 lead going into halftime.

West defended well throughout the second half, although Wingate got three-pointers from Kyle Jones and Kyle Begay, and Jones finished with a team-high 12 points.
