Opening day of the 2014 District 4 Little League tournaments was good for the hometown favorites.

Steven Encinias’ solo home run and a seven-strikeout start by Antonio Padilla boosted Las Vegas 11-12 baseball against Taos in a 22-0 romp, capping a big Saturday for local sluggers and their hundreds of fans at Rodriguez Park.

In the only all-Meadow City meeting of day one, host La Plaza 10-11 won a back-and-forth battle with Las Vegas 11-9.
LVLL 11-12 softball blanked Taos 20-0 and advances to play the Raton-Santa Rosa winner.

Las Vegas 9-10 softball picked up a forfeit against Mora, then won its first in a best-of-three series with Raton to decide the title. LVLL won 17-5 on Saturday morning.

LVLL 9-10 baseball also advanced, setting up another all-Vegas clash Sunday with La Plaza.

The tourneys run through Thursday in town.
