Deputy chief to run for recruiting effort

Most people are still sleeping when Christian Montao, Las Vegas’ deputy police chief, gets up to exercise.

Since Jan. 3, Montao has logged 204 miles of running and plans to add another 30 in the next week and a half. He has also done 35 hours of cross training.

He is preparing to take part in a 15.2-mile run as part of the the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces on March 30.

Officer Eric Padilla plans to march 15.2 miles, Montao said.
