Defense outshone the offense for Robertson’s girls’ soccer team in a 0-3 showing at the Rehoboth Invitational over the weekend.
RHS lost to Miyamura 3-0, then fell to host Rehoboth 2-0 before coming up shy in a double-overtime, penalty-kick war of attrition vs. Taos.
“We just came out flat in the first half (vs. Miyamura Friday),” said RHS coach Ray Parks. “Second half, I felt we dominated possession but couldn’t find the net.”
Parks noted that in Saturday’s contest with Rehoboth, there was no scoring until a three-minute spurt beginning with the 72nd minute.
“Just mental errors,” he said.
The Lady Cardinals took Taos through a scoreless regulation and two overtime sessions before the Lady Tigers squeaked out a win based on a penalty kick shootout.
“We outshot Taos 16-7 but again missed scoring chances,” Parks said.
Ashley Jaramillo, playing goalkeeper, had 13 saves combined over the weekend and “played great,” the coach said.
“Defense played very well throughout the tournament, and Elena (Martinez) and Tori (Gallegos) stood out. The girls played very well, so I’m not disappointed with the results.”
Still coping with an injury, Caitlin Diefendorf saw limited game time.
Notes: Robertson’s boys’ team was to play at Roswell Goddard on Saturday. No results from that match were reported as of press time. Both RHS teams play Desert Academy this coming week — the girls at home on Monday, the boys on the road on Tuesday.
