The "Sweetheart Dance: Stepping Back in Time" last night at Sala De Madrid on the HU campus was a gift to the community from the Friends of the City of Las Vegas Museum -- really, quite a suite of gifts.

First, of course, was the great dance music of "Smooth Riders," Bruce Holmes on Sax, Edward Harrington on Bass, Kevin Zoernig on piano, Ralph Marquez on drums, and vocalist Betty Thompson. Then there was a great selection of baked goods, treats, and beverages. And Finally, an amazing cornucopia of door prizes, worth $3 thousand or more! Topped by a $1 thousand CD from one local bank and a $1 thousand savings bond from another, there were also cash prizes up to $650 and gift certificates from restaurants and hotels up to $200 each.

The lucky winners "needed not be present to win," and at least half of them weren't. There were more than 60 people there at the time of the drawing, and the ratio of winners not present would indicate there had been well over 100 people enjoying the historic tunes and cutting a rug.
