Dalan Abreu, a 2012 Las Vegas Robertson High School graduate, has been selected as the recipient of the 31st Annual Michael William Marr Memorial Scholarship. The Marr Scholarship has been awarded annually since the 1981-82 school year to a Robertson student athlete who excelled academically and participated in the football program.

An outstanding scholar athlete and a leader on and off the field, Abreu participated in four sports and received many awards, including All- District and All-State honors in football and basketball. He served as football team captain.

A letter of recommendation from a teacher/ coach says, “Dalan Abreu rose to the top athletically and academically, distinguishing himself as a bright, inquisitive, energetic scholar athlete.”

Another teacher describes him as “a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball and one of the hardest working and honest student/athletes I have ever known.”

“Dalan has been more than the ideal athlete. In order to achieve his highest potential, he has been motivated to work hard on and off the field, demonstrated outstanding leadership and has always been a positive role model for younger athletes and students,” says another educator.

The son of Rick and Denise Abreu, Dalan is attending the University of New Mexico.

The Michael Marr Scholarship has helped fund the college education of 30 other Robertson graduates and has awarded more than $30,000.

The Marr Scholarship was established in 1981 in Memory of Michael Marr, former math teacher, head football coach and baseball coach at Robertson who was killed in a car accident. The Marr Gymnasium was named in his honor in 1985 and Marr was the first inductee to the Las Vegas City Schools Wall of Honor in 2007. In 2005, Marr also received a posthumous induction to the New Mexico Highlands University Athletic Hall of Honor.

Donations to the Marr Scholarship Fund can be made at any time directly to the Community 1st Bank in Las Vegas.
