The New Mexico Highlands University women’s rodeo team roped a team title and the men picked up a reserve championship Friday at the annual Mesalands Community College Rodeo in Tucumcari.
Breakaway roping was the first event with NMHU contestants. Kindee Wilson set the pace with a blistering 2.4 second run, which easily landed her a first place finish in the short round as well as the average. Chelsea DeMott, a native of Rio, Ill., also qualified.
