New Mexico Highlands University women’s basketball team is inviting local prep basketball players to attend the Cowgirl Skills Academy.

This advanced instructional camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7-9 at the Wilson Complex. Cost is $100, which includes a camp T-shirt and lunch. The NMHU athletics Web site includes a link to the registration form for the Cowgirl Skills Academy.

NMHU head coach Tiffany Darling, who recently led a team camp for high school girls’ squads, said the upcoming clinic will help players in various ways.

Among the subjects:
• Preparing for the recruiting process and strategies to get player’s name out to college coaches
• Drills on shooting
• Learning to break down game film to improve basketball IQ
• Advanced strength and conditioning
•  Position-specific skills drills

On-campus housing, breakfast and dinner will be available for purchase.

For details or to make room reservations, players may call 454-3217 or e-mail tndarling@nmhu.edu.

Registration will be limited to 40, so early sign-up is recommended.
