-A A +A

With a decisive 12-3 win, NMHU eliminated Regis from the RMAC baseball tournament on Friday afternoon, keeping its own title hopes alive and setting up a 7 p.m. rematch with Nebraska-Kearney. UNK dealt the Cowboys their first loss of the tourney on Thursday night.

Friday night's winner moves on to play Colorado State-Pueblo, an 11-10 winner Friday afternoon over Metro State. That game would take place at noon on Saturday. If UNK beats NMHU Friday night, a Lopers win in the Saturday game would give them the championship. If NMHU defeats UNK, the Cowboys play CSUP at noon on Saturday; then the winner of that game plays UNK for the championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Kearney stays alive regardless of what happens Friday because the Lopers are the only team without a loss yet in the double-elimination bracket. The Lopers edged NMHU 5-3 on Thursday.

In beating Regis, Highlands' Danny Brown drove in a game-high seven runs with two homers, finishing 2 for 5. Joe Mulroy was 3 of 5 with two RBI, and Chris Perez went 2 of 4 with two RBI.

Gorman Romero earned a complete-game pitching win, allowing 10 hits and no walks, striking out five, over nine innings. Romero, who hails from Jemez Pueblo, is 8-2.

NMHU improved to 38-18; Regis, the first team in the tourney to beat now-eliminated top seed Mesa State, finished its season 23-29.
