SANTA FE — New Mexico’s highest court overturned a veto by Gov. Susana Martinez on Wednesday and ordered a 5 percent pay raise for judges across the state.
The state Supreme Court made the ruling after hearing arguments from lawyers in a dispute focusing on the governor’s power to veto spending items approved by the Legislature and the authority of lawmakers to establish the salaries of judges.
