The San Miguel County Commission approved its final budget for this fiscal year last week — on the same day as the deadline to turn in the document to the state.
In an emergency meeting Thursday, the commission also unanimously approved an increase for nonprobationary employees. The increases range from 5 percent to 10 percent based on salary levels. An employee with a salary of $30,000 or less is to receive a 10 percent increase — or $3,000. Employees between $30,001 and $40,000 are to receive a 6 percent increase and employees between $40,001 and $60,000 are to receive a 5 percent increase.
“The ability of the county to provide this kind of salary adjustment speaks a lot of the commission, the administrative staff and the supervisors’ ability to oversee and manage public funds,” County Commissioner Hugh Ley said.
