County to sell old public housing

San Miguel County is ready for another round in its years-long effort to rid itself of the Ribera housing complex.

The County Commission on Tuesday voted to sell the Ribera development, a public housing complex that hasn’t been used in years.

Alex Tafoya, the county’s planning and zoning supervisor, told the commission that the property didn’t have to be used for low-income housing purposes, but he reported that the federal Housing and Urban Development Department requires that the proceeds go toward low-income housing causes.
