Commission adopts ban on fireworks

-A A +A

Council to take up issue

By Martin Salazar

Heeding the advice of several fire chiefs and members of the public, the San Miguel County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt a proclamation imposing fireworks restrictions throughout the unincorporated areas of the county and an outright ban on the use of any fireworks within wild land areas.

The action comes at the behest of Gov. Susana Martinez, who last month sent letters to county and city officials throughout the state asking that they consider imposing the bans and restrictions because of their potential to spark a major fire.
