City to require trash be covered

People hauling garbage may want to cover it up with tarps, or they’ll be fined, an official warned Tuesday.

Alvin Jiron started as the solid waste manager last month, and he said he has examined the city’s solid waste ordinance and found it was illegal to take uncovered trash to the transfer station.

That ordinance calls for a verbal warning for the first offense, a $50 fine for the second, $75 for the third and $100 for each subsequent offense, he said.
