City rejects alcohol license; state expected to OK it anyway

Taking a stand against drunken driving, the Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday rejected an application for a beer and wine license at the new Pizza Hut on Seventh Street.

Under state law, the city’s vote is simply advisory, and the state Alcohol and Gaming Division has the ultimate say. Pizza Hut is far enough away from schools and churches under state law, so it’s likely the state will approve the license, despite the council’s unanimous vote.
