Mayor Tony Marquez this week has appointed two people to help manager the city’s utilities department.
This decision comes just days after he placed Utilities Director George Du Four on unpaid leave. The City Council is expected to vote next week whether to keep Du Four.
Marquez has appointed Ken Garcia, who has 20 years in utility management, and Robert Tafoya, who has served as an engineering technical supervisor with the city before retiring after many years of service, according to a city press release.
Marquez said he wants the two men to improve the administrative and managerial performance of the utilities department.
“It is important that we make progress on capital projects, establish dialogue between the city and funding agencies, maintain oversight of critical administrative functions in the utility areas, and keep the governing body and community informed in a timely manner,” Marquez said in a statement.
