City eyeing ground storage

-A A +A

River water would be injected into aquifer

By Martin Salazar

The city of Las Vegas is poised to move forward with a pilot project that would involve taking water from the Gallinas River, injecting it into the aquifer of the Taylor Well Field for storage and then trying to retrieve it.

The city already has wells at the site that could be used to both inject the water and retrieve it. If successful, the project would give the city another storage alternative, although City Utilities Director Ken Garcia said there is no guarantee that the underground storage and recovery demonstration project will work.
