Chavez third in Rio Rancho

-A A +A
By Dave Kavanaugh

Alonzo Chavez’s run to third place in the boys’ race highlighted the performance of area runners in this past Saturday’s Rio Rancho XC Jamboree.

The Mora star clocked in at 16:23, behind a pair of runners from Class 5A Cleveland — Luis Martinez (15:50) and Aaron Flores (16:15). Chavez competed in the big-school run to battle those top competitors.

Meanwhile, West Las Vegas’ Moises Coca and Max Sedillo placed 10th and 15th, respectively, in the small-school boys’ race with times of 17:22 and 17:38. Pojoaque’s Jereme Santistevan won in 16:36.

The meet is a good chance for runners to preview the course at Rio Rancho High, host of the upcoming state championship meet.
