Henrique Chavez was the first native-born American runner to cross the finish line — and the fifth overall — in the Red Raider Open this past Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
The Buena Vista native and former Mora High state champion led New Mexico Highlands to a second-place team finish in the collegiate men’s race. Fourteen teams competed in the meet.
Paris native Marie-Josiane Ohoueu paced NMHU’s women, helping them finish fourth as a team.
