Robertson’s boys basketball team debuted with a 2-1 record and consolation final victory over the weekend in the Taos Invitational.
The Cardinals, led by head coach David Bustos, lost to Class 4A power Española Valley 61-51 to begin the three-day tourney on Thursday. John Adam Dimas scored 17 and Justin Bustos 14 in the losing cause against the Sundevils.
On Friday, Robertson rebounded, routing Questa 89-62. Four Cardinals reached double figures, led by Bustos, who hit the quarter-century mark. David Coca and Antonio Arguello — both fresh from the RHS football team’s extended playoff run — scored 13 and 12, respectively. And Fabian Varela added 11.
Saturday, the Redbirds topped Mesa Vista 69-57 in the consolation final. Bustos again paced the RHS scoring with 23 points; Varela chipped in 14.
Other teams participating were host Taos — now a district foe for Robertson and West Las Vegas — as well as Roswell Goddard, Santa Fe Indian School and Escalante.
RHS will play at Santa Fe Indian on Monday. C-team game tips off at 4 p.m. in Santa Fe.

In girls’ basketball action, Robertson lost 52-42 at Ruidoso this past Thursday. It was the season debut for coach Aunna Bradley’s Lady Cardinals.
The Lady Cards play at Santa Fe Indian School on Tuesday.
