Two New Mexico Highlands University football alumni continue to fight for roster spots in the National Football League. Linebacker Jordan Campbell is in camp with the Cincinnati Bengals, and cornerback Abdul Kanneh is with the Cleveland Browns.
Jordan Campbell: Three total tackles (one solo, two assist) in two games, both wins. The Bengals defeated Tennessee 27-19 on Saturday. Campbell is fourth on the Cincinnati depth chart at middle linebacker behind starter Rey Maualuga, Vincent Rey and J.K. Schaffer.
Campbell was a leading tackler for NMHU the last two seasons and was among the NCAA Division II leaders in tackles for loss and sacks.
Abdul Kanneh: Four total tackles (one solo, three assist) in two games, both wins. He also made at least one notable pass breakup in a one-on-one situation along the sideline as the Browns downed Detroit 24-6 on Aug. 15. They play at Indianapolis on Saturday. Kanneh was fourth in the most recent depth chart playing at left cornerback, but he’s also been in the mix on special teams.
Kanneh paced the Highlands Cowboys last fall with a half dozen interceptions.
