A capacity crowd of mixed martial arts fans turned out to watch the aptly named “Vegas Fight Night” Friday at the Night Owl.

“It was sold out to capacity,” said promoter Leroy “Tusa” Ortega. “I’m not sure what (attendance number) the fire department stopped it at. But we had to turn a few people away at the door.”

The card was loaded with Meadow City fighters.

In the main event, Las Vegas’ Arturo Padilla overcame an initial flurry by Villanueva’s Rico Saiz to score a technical knockout in the first round.

Rainsville’s Derek Pino got a quick TKO of Kino Bachicha in a rowdy semi-main event.

In what officials dubbed the fight of the night, Joe Dominguez, a onetime member of Robertson’s state champion wrestling team, blasted Questa’s Cris Gallegos with a second round TKO.

In other bouts featuring local talent, Amanda Ortzow stopped fellow Las Vegan Amber Archuleta in the first, and Jesus Lucero took a second round TKO of Albuquerque’s Josh Garcia.

Ortega said he’s looking to stage another MMA card in a couple of months.
